Life insurance questions, answered plainly.
The right coverage depends on your goals, health history, budget and state. Patricia Rawls is a licensed independent life insurance broker who can explain options from multiple carriers.
Can I get life insurance if I have diabetes?
Possibly. A diagnosis does not automatically rule out coverage. Carriers may consider the type of diabetes, A1C, treatment, duration, age and complications. Some applicants may qualify for traditional or simplified underwriting, while others may need a different product. Eligibility, premiums and any waiting period depend on the carrier and policy.
What is the difference between term and whole life insurance?
Term life insurance provides a death benefit for a chosen period, such as years when children depend on your income or a mortgage is outstanding. Coverage generally ends at the end of the term unless renewed or converted under the policy's rules. Whole life insurance is designed to last for life if required premiums are paid and typically includes cash value. The right fit depends on how long you need coverage and what you can sustain.
Can veterans buy life insurance outside VA programs?
Yes. Veterans may apply for individual coverage from private insurers, whether or not they have VA or military-related coverage. Existing benefits, health history, family needs and budget all matter when deciding whether additional protection makes sense. Private coverage is subject to the insurer's eligibility and underwriting rules.
How can an independent life insurance broker help?
An independent broker can compare available policies from more than one carrier, explain differences in benefits, underwriting and costs, and help you apply for a suitable option. The broker cannot guarantee approval or a particular premium. Patricia works with clients in TX, MI, NM, OH, KS, TN, LA, AR and OK, and partners with Equity Insurance Partners.
What should I ask before buying indexed universal life insurance?
Ask how premiums, policy charges, crediting limits and changes in illustrated returns could affect cash value and whether the policy stays in force. Indexed universal life is permanent insurance with flexible features, but cash-value growth is not guaranteed and a policy can lapse if it is not adequately funded. Review an illustration and the policy terms before deciding.
